What is coaching?
Coaching is a thought-provoking and creative partnership that inspires clients to maximize their personal and professional potential, often unlocking previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership. (International Coaching Federation definition)
What happens during a typical coaching session?
A typical coaching session follows a basic flow. At the beginning of the session, I will help you define what you want to achieve by the end of the session. Most of the rest of our time together, it is my job to ask you questions to help you open up new thinking, explore new possibilities, or engage in deep introspection on the topic you choose. At the end of the session we discuss what you plan to do between sessions and how you plan to create accountability for getting that work done.
At the beginning of our coaching engagement, we will discuss your goals to achieve by the end of the engagement. Those goals will help to guide the work as we engage in the coaching relationship.
When will I start to see results?
The old adage, “You get what you put into it” is true in coaching as it is in life. I have worked with clients who begin to see results instantly after our first session and I have worked with others who do not achieve their goals.
The clients who see results the fastest are the ones who engage deeply in the work. That means coming prepared to coaching sessions with a non-trivial topic to discuss, being willing to answer the questions I ask in an open and vulnerable way, and not getting defensive when exploring new ways to look at old patterns and problems. Doing the work between coaching sessions also will help to accelerate your results.
Who do you coach?
I coach leaders in government, not-for-profit, small business, and for-profit companies. I work with emerging leaders, first time leaders, directors, vice presidents, and the C-Suite.
How much does it cost?
In our first meeting, we will discuss a price that is simple and fair to both of us. Price depends on your goals, the format of our agreement, and tools to use to achieve your goals (for example 360 and other types of assessments).
Pricing is usually set on a per-session basis in packages of 10-sessions. Clients are expected to pay in advance.
How often will we meet?
I have found that generally the best results from coaching come at a pace of meeting for coaching sessions once a week for the duration of our engagement. I do work with some clients who prefer meeting every other week. Sessions are generally 1 hour long.
Where do sessions generally take place?
Coaching sessions will take place over video conference (zoom) or by telephone.
Do you have any testimonials I can read?
I take the confidentiality of the coaching relationship extremely seriously. As such, it is my policy not to ask any client for a testimonial. As a client, you will also have that benefit of coaching in a completely confidential environment. However, I would be happy to discuss with you ways that I can help you succeed as I have with other clients.
Are you certified?
I have earned an Executive Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University. I am a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF). I will soon be applying to become an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the ICF.
